Why I'm Using AI to Rethink My Teaching Practice

🌱A New Chapter in My Teaching Journey

Last year, I found myself asking a tough question:

"How can I meet the growing needs of every learner without burning out?"

Like many teachers, I care deeply about delivering meaningful, inclusive learning experiences.  But the traditional tools and methods we use sometimes feel tooslow to adapt to the pace of change in our classrooms.  That's when I began exploring the possibilities of AI - not as a replacement for good teaching, but as a partner in better teaching.

💡Why AI? Why Now?
We're living through one of the biggest technological shifts in education since the internet entered our classrooms.  For me, this moment is not about hype - it's about opportunity.  My 2025 professional growth goal is clear.

To enhance teaching practices and improve learning outcomes through the advanced application of AI in education.

My focus isn't just on learning about AI, but on using it to personalise learning, refine assessment, and collaborate more effectively with colleagues.  It's about making teaching more human, not less.

🎯What I'm Working On
As part of my growth cycle, here's where I'm placing my energy:
  • Exploring AI tools that support differentiated instruction and formative assessment.
  • Developing specialised search engines to streamline curriculum design and assessment planning.
  • Collaborating with colleagues to embed AI in our everyday practice.
  • Leading professional development to help teachers feel empowered, not intimidated by emerging tech.
Each of these focus areas connects directly to the professional standards we value and the strategic goals of our school. They also align deeply with our shared mission: to foster equity, confidence, and deep learning in every student.

🔎 What I Hope to Discover
This isn't a finished journey - it's a living experiment.  I'm documenting:
  • What tools work (and which don't).
  • How students respond to personalised feedback and AI supported learning paths.
  • What kind of professional growth happens when teachers work together in this space.
At the heart of it all is one driving belief:

AI should be used to make our teaching more thoughtful, responsive, and human.

✏️What's Next

In the coming months, I'll be sharing:

  • The tools that helped me the most.
  • Real classroom examples of AI in action.
  • Stories from our staff PD sessions
  • Honest reflections on what I'm learning (and unlearning)
If you're curious about integrating AI into your teaching practice - whether you're excited, skeptical, or somewhere in between - I hope you'll follow along.
