Professional Growth Cycle, 2023
Rationale:
2023 brings an abundance of new changes to the NZ curriculum. This includes NZ Histories; Literacy, Communication, and Maths Strategy; The Common Practice Model. Therefore, I feel it would be beneficial to our kura, colleagues, and whanau to gain a better understanding of these key changes.
As a result of the many changes happening, I’ve decided to focus on being an ‘agent of change’ and support teachers through this process. I have decided to focus on one key curriculum area - Mathematics.
*Become familiar with the changes to the Curriculum in mathematics
*Support the change of mindsets.
*Build teacher knowledge and capabilities for each of the respective phases of mathematics.
*Become familiar with the assessment processes and tools for Mathematics.
*Facilitate math moderation with Staff, and design moderation templates for teachers to follow.
*Observe teaching practice, giving feedback and feedforward.
*Provide the next steps on how to help improve their practice.
*Facilitate toolkit workshops and sharing of best practices with colleagues.
*Sharing tools and templates to support teachers with their math planning - Term Overview; Back Mapping; Balanced Math Diet.
Expected Outcomes:
*To be confident and precise in the delivery of effective math programs, and teacher pedagogic approaches to
support the sustainability of effective practices within our kura. This will align with the ‘effective pedagogies model’.
*I will create a visual tool that clearly outlines the expected outcomes for each phase of the math curriculum.
*A common code of effective practices will be introduced to guide and support teachers in their delivery of creating positive learning experiences of mathematics in our school.
